Challenge #7
In your own space, create a list of at least three things you'd love to receive, something you've wanted but were afraid to ask for - a wishlist of sorts. Leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your wishlist if you feel comfortable doing so. Maybe someone will grant a wish. Check out other people's posts. Maybe you will grant a wish. If any wishes are granted, we'd love it if you link them to this post.
So... picked a bad few days to have a Bad Mental Health Period. (At least I still have plenty of time for my exchanges still, even if I'd like to have started by now...)
I feel a little churlish skipping to this challenge. But every year, this is the one that really feels like it brings together the community, and it'd make me sad not to take part in that, even if it's maybe only going to be me asking for things. (I have been scrolling through the requests, though!! Hopefully I remember which ones had things I could actually do something for...) And I feel like these sorts of requests are like prompts: if you're already inclined to make something (including, say, a DW comment with some recs), it's way more fun to look through and find some that speak to you that will actually be really appreciated!! Solidarity with those who love the same or similar things you do, and the joy of being able to make someone happy enjoyably~
With that said... I guess these are my wishes!
1) Fanfiction DVD commentaries. Anyone remember those?! Even the non-fandom version of this is getting pretty old-school now, huh? But I was looking through some LJ era fic recently and remembered how much I missed these: when authors would copy over their fic and add in-line commentary with behind-the-scenes info about it! Like the thought process behind writing decisions, research done, changes made, and all that good stuff. :) I think I deleted the tab I was saving as an example (RIP, never delete tabs Ever), but Fanlore has more info and some examples!! Basically, if there's any fic of yours you've ever wanted to pick apart and explain every other line of, take this as your entreaty to do so and link it here! :)
2) Which reminds me... This is more thinking out loud than a wishlist item, but: I've been wanting more opportunities for writers to talk about their fics in general (partially for my own benefit as an author, yes...) I wrote up a fic meme a while ago that I've been meaning to post (RIP I cannot find it at all right now. welp. maybe later), with questions like 'a fic I did way too much research for' or 'a fic inextricably associated with a life event' and such. Boy this would be a good time to post my own if I could find it lol... But I've also thought it would be fun to have like, a self-reccing comm or something?? With monthly themes and related example questions where people are encouraged to talk about things they've written in the past (rather than new works). I should probably just try and make that myself, shouldn't I?
3) Okay actual wishlist item now: in February, I will be going on holiday to America!! Particularly Washington D.C. (I have family there~). As a result, I want to be getting in the mood, fanfiction-wise!!
* One time I read a Sidney Crosby/Evgeni Malkin (sp??) fic that was Really Good. I know there are a Lot of those out there, but: any that will help an ice hockey newbie to understand the game better? I'll be going to one in Washington :) (other ice hockey RPF ships accepted........ MAYBE. Tell me the dynamic and I'll judge!!)
* I've also been getting into The West Wing, surprisingly?! (I watched 3 seasons years ago but for whatever reason didn't get into the fandom at all.) As usual I'm primarily interested in the m/m lol sooo, got any Sam/Josh or Leo/Jed(/Abbey) recs? (Abbey doesn't need to the primary focus of the fic but I definitely only want that ship if it's comfy polyamory <3) If it helps, I have S/J recs I can offer in return...?
* I used to be suuuuper into the historical Alexander Hamilton/John Laurens scene, particularly focused on John Laurens. I haven't really kept up with it for a few years, so if you have any recs there that'll also be appreciated :)
* Side-note: any US- and/or politics-centric TTRPGs I could dig my teeth into? Oh - I'm going to Yellowstone as well, so anything related to that or national parks in general, too?? I really enjoy TTRPGs on holiday because I need stuff to read when there's no internet access and I find them really easy to keep up with in between conversations, haha.
* ...come to think of it, is there a TTRPG comm on dreamwidth?? That'd be fun :O (also I've been thinking of coming up with a TTRPG Reading Bingo ala the various fanfic versions out there, so I guess I could post that there maybe...?)
4) Actually I should ask this really: The West Wing icon recs? :) I already know about

5) If there are any Yuki/Kakeru (Fruits Basket) shippers out there please please please tell me because I got back into this fandom and am still kind of obsessed with these two but there's almost nobody posting in the tumblr tag anymore even though the reboot anime only stopped a couple of years ago and I'm still in denial that I totally missed the Yukeru revival (aside from all the wonderful fanfic I am working my way through) :')
okay that's enough
