Challenge #4

IceBreaker Challenge! Tell us about yourself. Post your answer to today’s challenge in your own space and leave a comment in this post saying you did it. Include a link to your post if you feel comfortable doing so.

...so, yes: I understand that it's terribly ironic to leave the icebreaker for last. :'D But I really just wasn't sure what to write for this one, especially after updating my fandom details on a previous day... So, I think I wanted to see what was covered by the other days, and what other people were writing, and so I thought I'd figure out what I wanted to say! And, you know? I think I do have that kind of context to answer this properly, now!

So, hi! I'm 22degreehalo! I'm a Fandom Old from way back in the Harry Potter days of the mid 00s, and fandom is still just as much of my life now as it was then! My active fandoms shift and change over time (and I'd arguably say I don't really have a singular main fandom at present, like I usually do), but I rarely drop fandoms; instead, they just linger within me, ready to pop out at the most inconvenient times!

I like a wide variety of fandoms, annoyingly, as my ADHD brain craves novelty and contrast. But I like a lot of anime and video game fandoms, as well as some live action ones, and more rarely others. I tend to like works with big casts, colorful settings (both figuratively and literally!), hinted-at angsts and traumas that I can tease out, fucking weirdos that I can headcanon as neurodivergent, and extremely ambiguous and complicated relationships dripping in subtext that I can put under a magnifying glass and luxuriate in. I don't tend to be very interested in villains or openly toxic relationships, but I do ship incest from time to time, so I'm adamantly pro-shipping.

My fandom contributions tend to be fanfiction, which can be found here at [archiveofourown.org profile] fallacyfallacy, an account I've held for over ten years now! I also like to write meta, share headcanons, make icons (over at [community profile] parhelic_circle, and just generally drift and act as my whims take me. I like breaking things apart and hyperanalysing them, sometimes in very critical ways, but I deal very badly with overt mean-spiritedness or negativity, so I probably won't follow anyone who tends to post a lot of that - no offence!

In meatspace, I have recently started work as a part-time librarian! I enjoy my job a very great deal and would love to talk about it some with other librarians! However, I don't actually read a lot of books...? Particularly when it comes to fiction. I'm trying to read a bit more now that I have this job, but my usual Canon Consumption strategy is 'screaming vortex juggling fifty million things at once and finishing five' sooo don't follow this blog expecting regular book recs or anything of the sort, haha.

I'm aroace, and have complicated feelings towards that, but I'd like to talk to other fandom aro/aces, particularly of the kinky and proshippy 'these things are Fascinating but I take a hard pass on ever doing them IRL' sort! I'm also autistic and have ADHD, which I imagine is not uncommon in fandom haha, since all I'd really request is patience and a lack of excessive tone reading-into, which IME is pretty common in Fandom Old spaces such as this!

For a very rough overview, here's an alphabetical list of some of the biggest fandoms I've had (which may pop up at any point and which I am generally happy to talk about): Ace Attorney, Avatar: The Last Airbender, BanG Dream!, Chihayafuru, Dungeons & Dragons: Honour Among Thieves, Ensemble Stars!, Final Fantasy X/X-2, Fire Emblem (primarily 4, 13, 18, and Heroes), Fruits Basket, Game of Thrones, Harry Potter, Historical RPF (Alexander Hamilton and John Laurens), Homestuck, Klaus, Little Busters!, Love Live!, Mahou Sensei Negima, Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha, The Office (US), Parks and Recreation, Persona 4, Pokemon (primarily GSC and BW), Ru Paul's Drag Race, Sailor Moon, Star Trek TOS, Star Trek TNG, Steven Universe, Supernatural, Ted Lasso, Touhou, What We Do In The Shadows (tv)

Aside from fandom I also like tabletop roleplaying games (though I spend far more time reading gamebooks than I do actually playing... but I do have a D&D group!!), crafts (sometimes... I'm trying haha :'D), origami, mobile games, cosy video games, quirky fashion/jewellery, learning Japanese, and my cat Sampson! <3

This is an awful lot... but I do indeed have a tendency to rabbit on whenever I insist on doing things Properly (and not doing them at all if I can't...) so this is also a very appropriate introduction :'D

I apologise for not commenting more on y'all's posts, and again in advance if I ever fail to respond to your comments in the future - I also have some uhhh fairly large anxiety issues, and communicating with people is a pretty big trigger! But rest assured that I really appreciate people engaging with anything I post, even if I can't respond! <3

Either way... hi, there! And how are you? :D

So much of what you wrote registered in the "Me too! OMG me too," but this bit put the goosebumps out on how very much I could have written it word for word.

I'm aroace, and have complicated feelings towards that, but I'd like to talk to other fandom aro/aces, particularly of the kinky and proshippy 'these things are Fascinating but I take a hard pass on ever doing them IRL' sort!

I'm just now starting to figure myself out and find the categories that make sense, so I'm very much in that "Am I the only one who feels this way?" stage, but to hear you too feel this way...😍😍

So very lovely. And so very her for any convos you want to have about that.

>> I tend to like works with big casts, colorful settings (both figuratively and literally!),<<

Those are fun.

>> hinted-at angsts and traumas that I can tease out, <<

I write a lot about trauma and recovery, both in fanfic and original work.

>> fucking weirdos that I can headcanon as neurodivergent, <<

I've done that, and diverse sexualities too.

>> and extremely ambiguous and complicated relationships dripping in subtext that I can put under a magnifying glass and luxuriate in.<<

I write fanfic "derive in, extrapolate out." So I look at what the characters are in canon, try to imagine how they got that way, and then explore how that would influence future events.

>> I like breaking things apart and hyperanalysing them, sometimes in very critical ways, <<

That's fun. I did that with a roleplaying book recently. It had its flaws, but also some really great parts, and that made it fun to take apart.

If you're into troll romance at all, there are some great essays linked on [community profile] 100quadrantedships.

>>In meatspace, I have recently started work as a part-time librarian! I enjoy my job a very great deal and would love to talk about it some with other librarians!<<

That's awesome. I have librarians in my audience.

>>However, I don't actually read a lot of books...? Particularly when it comes to fiction. I'm trying to read a bit more now that I have this job, but my usual Canon Consumption strategy is 'screaming vortex juggling fifty million things at once and finishing five' <<

Nothing says you have to read books that are all one piece, like novels. You could read anthologies of short stories or poems, craft books with individual projects, essay collections, etc. There are lots of books that consist of short things lumped together. Alternatively, you could read the magazines, newspapers, other periodicals, listen to music, watch videos -- most libraries have a lot of stuff that isn't books. Because most librarians do gravitate toward the books, having someone with an interest in other things could be extremely useful. Talk to your coworkers, find out what their interests are, and consider the gaps. People are busy. Having good recommendations for short stuff is useful.

Also well represented in my audience and writing.

>>Aside from fandom I also like tabletop roleplaying games (though I spend far more time reading gamebooks than I do actually playing<<

Me too. I own far more gamebooks than I have played games. But that's okay -- they are fun to read and analyze.

No problem. My blog is lurker-friendly. Also some of my readers, when low on spoons, just post "like" or a smiley, or occasionally a favorite line.

I'm not aro, I don't think, but I am most generally ace! Kink and proship and dark and etc: see my intense need to champion those in all corners. Robust fantasy and fiction combined with "do that in RL, no thank you not for me".
